Daath Origins Now In Early Access
Fans of RPGs and decision-based games may want to take a look at Daath Origins, created by Jeff Quindlen, a 33-year old science-fiction loving father/programmer completely in RPG Maker XP. It is a sci-fi RPG that has players command an Earth-life sustaining ship of over a million passengers as they try to escape from the clutches of an evil totalitarian alien rule.
The open world game looks to keep players engaged for quite a while as it boasts a massive 36-sector galaxy, 500 handcrafted planets, and over 75 playable quests. You start the game by choosing from 26 playable classes. Each class comes with its own perks and there are some you’d never think in an action game (I chose to be a cook).
Battles take the form of a traditional turn-based RPG mimicking space battle. One of the most exciting features of this game is the amount of control you have when taking on enemies. You’ll be able to use different abilities to damage different areas of the ship, depending on the situation. Some of these abilities require you to hit button commands on time for maximum effect.
Another cool feature in this game is how much control you actually feel like you have over your ship. You’ll be able to promote crew members and manage away teams. How you interact with others in the game will also play a role in how other NPCs will perceive you. Much like the fan favorite, Knights of the Old Republic, you’ll be able to influence your answers into “good,” “neutral,” and “evil.” Your choices can have drastic effects on the outcome of the game so be careful. Your crew members may even try and mutiny!
To celebrate the launch of the game, Quindlen has put together an extensive collector’s edition packed with retro-inspired goodies. And when we say put together, we mean he handcrafted it! Check out the contents below.
- Daath Origins on DVD-ROM
- Daath Origins Box, Map & Manual
- Original Soundtrack 2 CD Set (31 original songs)
- Figurine of the player’s starship
While Daath Origins is a full-featured game, it is currently in Early Access of Steam so Quindlen can gauge community response. ” … Early Access seems like the perfect way to allow players to experience the content early while allowing me to collect the necessary feedback I need to refine the release candidate.”
Daath Origins is available now on Steam Early Access at a discounted price of $8.99 USD. You can also check out the full soundtrack of the game on Spotify.
