The Famicam 64 Photo App Captures Real Life in 8-Bit

Famicam 64 is a new retro gaming photo app inspired by classic old school gaming graphics. It’s fun, free, and probably my new favorite way to filter everyday pictures. It’s a full-fledged camera app packed with a ton of different features and filters, so you’ll definitely stay busy with this one.

One of the coolest features is being able to adjust filters in real-time. This means you can check out all of the filters without even snapping a single picture! The filter list is extremely robust too. You can choose iconic video game graphical styles, retro computer looks, and several filter inspirations that may require some Googling! Or, maybe that’s just me.

But that’s not even the coolest part.

The coolest thing about the Famicam app is the editor. Trust me, you’ll have fun with this one. From emoticons, to monsters, to weapons, you’ll have a blast coming up with scenarios for the pics you snap. There are even custom frames that allow you to turn your creations into box art! My personal favorite additions are the 8-bit sprites that compliment one of the gaming inspired filters, like the Game Boy.

Here’s a demo of it in action.

The Famicam app will hit home for retro gamers that, otherwise, wouldn’t find fun in popular apps like Snapchat — cough — me. The app is free and an upgraded version can be purchased that includes more features. It’s only available for iOS with an Android version on the way.

Like Famicam 64? What’s your favorite retro gaming-inspired mobile app?

Johnny grew up sharing NES, Genesis, and Playstation games with his older brother. His first personal system was the Nintendo 64. After regaining most of his old games, he began to expand his collection. Eventually, his mission became to collect anything and everything retro related.
