Gaming Art Spotlight: Nintendo Mother’s Day Cards

Mother’s Day is just around the corner! If you’re on a budget or just love doing things with your hands, homemade gifts are the way to go.

I decided to do a mini series of 3 Nintendo-themed Mother’s Day cards. I’m a big fan of the number 3. It’s not too much, it’s not too little.

The hardest part was trying to figure out what characters I wanted to draw. I played around with a couple of Link concepts, but they seemed more like Valentine’s Day cards (yikes!). I narrowed it down to Maria and Giygas from the first Mother game, Kirby, and Yoshi.

I worked on a few concept sketches, trying to figure out the composition and layout. Sticking to a simple design, I grabbed my tools and went to work!

Add a few more personal touches, like iridescent gold paint for your mom’s golden heart and a slightly crooked handwritten message, and it’s ready to be sent with love.

Growing up with just a Nintendo 64, Stephanie enjoyed playing her little game library. And although she isn’t an avid game collector, she still loves a chance to kick someone’s butt in Diddy Kong Racing.

She is also an artist.
